Abstract
Author reported here two cases of tuberculous spondylitis of cervical and upper thoracic spine among the patients who were treated at Dept. of Orthopedic surg. of-Seoul- national Univ. Hospital. One was fused from C3 to C5 and another from C, to T4
In our experiences, anterior approach and anterior fusion of cervical & upper thoracic spine were not so much hard to perform, but had some definite advantages even though some important structures, as carotid sheath with its content and recurrent laryngeal nerve, were encountered during operation.
In general, as tuberculosis of cervico-thoracic spine attacked children fairly well with kyphosis, utpper horacic spines were exposed without much difficulty and were easily curretted and grafted with iliac bone even down to T4.
This transcervical anterior approach seemed rather simple and convenient than thoracotomy and anterior fusion, especially in young children with kyphosis as far as author¢¥s experience is concerned, if focal curettage and anterior fusion is desired.
